7-8pm > PRESENTATION > Walid Raad / "My Neck is Thinner than a Hair" @ Krannert Art Museum #62
EXHIBITION > Krannert Art Museum > Mapping Sitting: On Portraiture and Photography
Mapping Sitting, a project by Walid Raad and Akram Zaatari focuses on commercial works that have received little attention from art historians, raising questions about portrait photography in the Arab world, and portraiture, photography, and visual culture in general. The exhibition includes a range of images and presentation methods, such as 4,500 passport photographs of Tripoli residents pinned to the wall and a video projection based on group portraits of military men from Lebanon, Palestine, Syria, Egypt, and Iraq between 1880 and 1960. Collectively the images convey the multifaceted, pluralistic communities captured by indigenous photographers, images far different from those currently associated in the West with the "Arab street."
Walid Raad's presentation and exhibition are organized by the Krannert Art Museum
